The University of Cincinnati Education and Research Center Continuing Education Program, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, continues the tradition begun in 1949 of offering short courses in environmental and occupational health and safety through the Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences, Established in 1983, the Office of Continuing Education assumed the coordination of the administrative and marketing functions of the program, allowing faculty to concentrate their efforts on course development. Through the cooperative effort the ERC Continuing Education Program has built a national reputation for offering excellence in environmental /occupational health and safety courses.

The University of Cincinnati is part of a national network of nonprofit organizations authorized by the United States Department of Labor OSHA to deliver occupational safety and health training to private and public sector workers, supervisors, and employers. The University of Cincinnati has been home to an authorized OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC), known as the Great Lakes OSHA Education Center for 25 + years.

Trenching & Excavation Capacity Building GrantThe Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences is a proud recipient of a Susan Harwood Capacity Building Grant (#SH-05166-SH9) that will provide three new training opportunities in Trenching and Excavation Safety to companies who employ under 250 employees at no cost. Training will include a 2-hour introductory level module designed for workers which will focus on hazard recognition and avoidance, a 4-hour advanced level training for workers with some safety and hazard abatement responsibilities, and a third 6-hour employer level module explaining the regulatory responsibilities for employers under the OSH Act.Learn More: Trenching & Excavation Capacity Building Grant
Workplace Safety & Health Training on Infectious DiseasesThe University of Cincinnati’s Department of Environmental and Public Health Sciences is 1 of 37 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive a training grant from the Department of Labor for Workplace Safety and Health Training on Infectious Diseases, including COVID-19 hazards. This award derives from the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program and funding was made available by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. Training will include a 3-hour course which will focus on the identification and prevention of infectious diseases in the workplace. This new training opportunity will be available to companies who employ under 250 employees at no cost.
