Research Art Contest

The Art of Science Contest is an opportunity for faculty, students, and staff to find their creativity by upcycling materials from their lab and workspace and transforming them into art pieces. Join us on October 17 from 4:30-7pm in the Medical Science Building CARE/Crawley Atrium to see the exhibition and vote for your favorite pieces. Prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place. Register Today!

RECYCLE YOUR PLASTIC LABWARE INTO ART PIECES

Transform your pipette tips, pipette tip holders, plate spreaders, etc. into sculptures, mosaics, and other works of art such as mixed media, bricolage.

Contest Rules:

  • Deans, faculty, staff, students, and trainees may participate.
  • Participants must register via the submission portal by October 4, 2024. Participants may register as an individual or a group. However, only one prize will be given in each category. 
  • Entries must contain 100% recycled, recovered or found content from your research lab except for paints, dyes, adhesives, canvas and mounting hardware.
  • Entries may contain any clean, non-biohazardous, non-radioactive, recycled material as art medium, except for food matter or living organisms (Pictures of bacteria, fungus, etc. are OK).
  • Entry dimension may be no larger than 72” high x 36” wide x 24” deep and must be ready to display by wall mount, plinth, free standing, etc.
  • Entries must be stable enough to move by event staff or the artist must be available to display and remove the piece.
  • Entries must credit the original artist in the case of a reproduction (e.g. Edvard Munch, The Scream).
  • Prizes: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.
