The Genomics, Epigenomics and Sequencing Core (GESC), originally named as Sequencing and Microarray Laboratory, was established in 1999. GESC is a fee-for-service, one-stop core facility that provides genomics- and epigenomics-related services to researchers at the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. It also provides services to other institutions and organizations on contract bases.
Equipped with Illumina HiSeq and WaferGen Apollo 324 Automatic Library Preparation System, the Core routinely provides a variety of NGS services such as RNA-seq, miRNA-seq, ChIP-seq and methyl-seq. It also performs Infinium BeadChip assay including HumanMethylation450 for DNA methylation studies. In addition, the Core also provides a series of other supportive services to meet researchers’ needs.

The Center for Biostatistical Services, as a core unit of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, is housed in the Department of Environmental Health. The Center has been in existence since 1998. The mission of this center is to “leverage funding on grants” by providing first-rate Biostatistical assistance to the grant proposals. During the years of its operation, the Center has assisted in more than 360 grant proposals.
The Center has many on-going projects. There are several projects with the Psychiatry & Nephrology departments, in which we are providing biostatistical analyses and database design and management. The Center has also served as a Data Coordinating Center for a project in Complementary and Alternative Medicine. The Center has on-going projects with many departments as well as some non-university clients. To help with these projects, the Center has access to state of the art software and computers, biostatistical literature, besides having a team of the finest and dedicated biostatisticians.

The research focus of the Bioinformatics Microarray Analysis laboratory is the development of statistical and bioinformatics methods for learning from diverse genomics data types, and the application of such methods through interdisciplinary biomedical efforts. Members of the laboratory are also developing protocols for comprehensive data management and the bioinformatics analysis of microarray and next-gen sequencing data generated by the University of Cincinnati Genomics Core.
