Welcome to the UC Department of Radiation Oncology. We are a dynamic department, committed to the highest standards of patient care, research and education. Our faculty plays key roles at the Barrett Cancer Center, the UC Neuroscience Institute and within the UC cancer programs. Our faculty is composed of a vibrant group of individuals each with a subspecialized cancer focus.
As part of an academic medical center, this allows our faculty opportunity to provide expert clinical care for the most routine and complex cancers in collaboration with subspecialized oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists.
Our faculty are committed to bringing the most up-to-date recommendations for our current patients through advancing cancer research. In addition to local advancement of cancer research, our faculty advance cancer care nationally by serving on committees through NRG Oncology, American Society of Radiation Oncology, and Children's Oncology Group. As part of our academic mission, we also provide education to the next generation of radiation oncologists.
Our state-of-the-art facilities and technology include four Varian linacs, a Tomotherapy unit, intensity-modulated proton radiotherapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy, superficial radiation for skin cancers and complex brachytherapy including MRI based brachytherapy for gynecologic cancers.
We have superb training programs, including our Radiation Oncology Residency Program which has ranked in the top quartilefor board pass rate, and our Graduate Program in Medical Physics . In addition, we have extensive interaction with University of Cincinnati medical students at all levels, UCI-UCIV.
All patients treated by members of our department are presented at our weekly Peer Review Conference where they are discussed and recommendations are made to ensure that we employ the best practices available. In addition to training future health care workers, the trainees’ presence is associated with constant in-depth examination and questioning of current practices, with an eye to improvement. In our department, graduate education substantially contributes to optimal patient care.
As a testament to the outstanding clinical care provided by our faculty, more than half have been rated in the top 1% of patient satisfaction nationally by Press Gainey and our physicians are regularly listed in Cincinnati Magazine's survey of Best Doctors in Cincinnati as well as the national Best Doctors surveys.
