The Division of Radiation Oncology within the Department of Radiology at the University of Cincinnati was established in 1969 with the recruitment of Bernard Aron, MD. Prior to that, radiation therapy had been administered within the Department of Radiology under the university tumor service.
Dr. Aron established the University of Cincinnati Radiation Oncology Residency Program, the Master’s Physics Program and the Radiation Therapy Technology Program and was extremely active in University of Cincinnati medical student education.
The division was housed at UC Health University Hospital (now UC Medical Center) until moving to the Barrett Cancer Center with the opening of that facility in 1989.
The division/department has thrived over the years in providing superb patient care, education of a large number of practicing radiation oncologists, master’s level physicists, radiation therapists and other physicians. The department has presented and published many research projects over the years.
The mission of the University of Cincinnati Department of Radiation Oncology is to provide superb care to patients with cancer as we train future members of the field and perform research to help current and future patients.
