During the neuropathology rotation, residents participate in both intraoperative consultations as well as daily grossing and signing out of surgical specimens alongside our neuropathologists. Residents also have the opportunity to pursue additional educational opportunities in neuropathology, including glass slide study sets, attending lectures on surgical neuropathology, and participating in brain cutting. Additionally, residents will participate in the muscle and nerve biopsy service in a similar manner.
Residents have the opportunity to attend the Neuro-oncology Tumor Board which meets once weekly, where they will learn the multidisciplinary approach to the care of patients with neurologic malignancies. The level of resident participation depends on their level of experience; senior residents may take photomicrographs of cases and, after review with the attending, be prepared to discuss the pathologic findings with the clinical care team.
