Each year the UC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has three openings for PGY-1 residents. PGY-1 positions are filled through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Applications are accepted only through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and must be received by December 1 for appointments beginning July 1 of the following academic year. We will be participating in the Pathology Unified Interview Offer Release Date; with our first interview offers going out on October 18, 2024.
The following minimum requirements are used when considering candidates who apply to our program:
Based upon holistic review of application materials, the residency selection committee will issue an invitation to interview with our department in early October. Interviews will be held late October through early January. Interviews for the 2024-2025 academic year will be held virtually. The interview will consist of meetings with the program director, associate program director, several additional faculty, and current residents. Two virtual social hours will be held during the recruitment season to allow candidates to interact more with and ask questions of our residents. Candidates will be provided additional program information prior to their interview, including a recorded departmental video tour, and program overview.
The program strives to invite qualified women and under-represented minorities to interview and ideally choose to join our program, and also strives for an ethnically diverse group of residents. The Resident Selection Subcommittee includes individuals from diverse backgrounds. The department emphasizes the importance of diversity and inclusion, and works to create an environment where every individual is respected, regardless of his/her race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
