The UC Department of Internal Medicine aims to be a leader in improving the overall health of the local and global community based upon its tripartite mission of education, research and patient care.
The second-largest department within the College of Medicine and the largest serving UC Health, internal medicine is made up of nine divisions, each with dedicated staff and world-renowned faculty members who provide the best evidence-based care to patients while conducting leading-edge research and providing the most innovative and hands-on education to the physicians and researchers of tomorrow.
Researchers in each division have extensive support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as well as other federal and private agencies, industries and donors. Within the department, Centers of Excellence, as identified by the College of Medicine, exists research for cardiovascular diseases, cancer (hematology oncology division) and diabetes (endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism division).
Researchers within the department have been recognized for their “bench to bedside” research accomplishments, including the discovery and treatment for the rare lung disease lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), as well as genetic markers for other major diseases and innovative treatments that may change the practice of health care worldwide.
We are continuously studying new therapies and offer a number of clinical trials for public participation.
The internal medicine educational program is truly focused on helping students develop and fine-tune their skill sets to become the best physicians possible. The program places a major emphasis on face-to-face interaction with patients so residents may gain the real-life experience necessary to be successful in the field.
Our unique programs have won awards, and other academic health centers are beginning to use our model as a standard for their educational planning.
Our clinical programs are as robust as our research and educational programs, and we offer the highest standard of care both locally and globally.
Recognized as "Best Doctors in America" by Cincy magazine and "Top Doctors" in Cincinnati by Cincinnati Magazine, our expert clinicians are committed to using the latest scientific advancements to provide patients with the best possible care.
