Endowed Chairs are Vital to the Future of Academic Medicine

Endowed chairs are the highest academic award that the University can bestow on a faculty member. They both honor the named holder of the appointment and serve as an enduring tribute to the donor and his or her family.

Endowed chairs provide funds to protect the academic time of the appointment holder, allowing him/her to push the frontiers of scholarship.

One chair holder can touch hundreds of lives through the courses they teach, the students they mentor, the patient outcomes they improve, and their scientific discoveries.

Endowed chairs are a vital recruitment tool for attracting academic talent to the University

Donors provide funds to immortalize the family name, advance the missions of their University, and promote personal interests in specific areas of study.

By funding endowed chairs, donors can convene the brightest minds to focus on particular problems or issues and spur advances in those areas, in their own home town.

The corpus of the endowed chair is never touched; a portion of the interest is used to support the academic program of the chair holder, and a portion is reinvested into the Chair.

The internal medicine department is dependent on philanthropic support. If you would like to make a gift to any of these funds or would like to explore other giving opportunities, please contact Jolinda Miller, Senior Director of Development, Clinical Programs, at jolinda.miller@foundation.uc.edu or 513-556-2255.
