Global Health

Our department has been committed to providing care to international populations since 1990 and many alumni of the residency continue to provide care all over the world. In addition to the ongoing partnerships listed below, faculty and residents have recently served individuals in Haiti, Brazil, Ecuador, Cameroon, Cambodia, Nepal, Malawi, and India.

• Guatemala: Our department has been in partnership with the organization Wuqu’ Kawoq/Maya Health Alliance since 2015. We send groups of students, residents, and faculty four times per year to provide primary care in rural Guatemala; the frequency of our visits allows us to manage both acute and chronic concerns. We are also expanding our ability to provide telehealth services and to gather and evaluate continuity data to improve the quality of care we provide.
• Tanzania: We actively support and partner with Village Life Outreach Project, founded and directed by our department faculty graduate. Efforts in Tanzania are community-centered and community-led, with the local partner SHED Foundation helping organize local committees that meet regularly.
• Global Health Fellowship: We are proud to host a Global Health Fellowship (Global Health Fellowship Link) that allows family physicians to gain experience in global health while working with one of these partners.
