Christ Hospital Residency Program

Our program is committed to teaching and training family physicians to become caring leaders within the community. We are an academic community-based training program through a joint partnership between The Christ Hospital and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Our faculty are from the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Cincinnati, and our sponsor and clinical rotations are housed at The Christ Hospital. I am thankful to have such a dedicated group of faculty and staff who are eager to continue learning and to share that excitement in their teaching. Family Medicine training is done collaboratively with residents from a unique five-year combined training in Family Medicine & Psychiatry (FMP). The FMP program, now in its 25th year, produces broadly trained physicians with a depth in caring for mental health issues. Family Medicine residents benefit from training alongside FMP residents, and graduate with increased confidence in their behavioral health abilities.

One of our program’s goals is to tailor the training for each individual resident in anticipation of future practice and career goals. Our location in Cincinnati and our relationships within the healthcare community allow us to offer a personalized training experience for each resident, complementing their passions and abilities. The Christ Hospital is one of the oldest community hospitals in Cincinnati and is consistently ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the nation’s top 50 hospitals. Our residents rotate through Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center for inpatient pediatrics, emergency medicine, and outpatient pediatric clinics. Cincinnati Children’s is a national leader and is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the Top 2 “Best Children’s Hospitals.” Few Family Medicine programs can boast of such training in leading adult and pediatric hospitals.

We have a longstanding commitment to care for underserved populations, both in Cincinnati, across the United States, and internationally. All of our residents have annual Global Health experiences that are funded by the program. Residents also serve the Cincinnati community through longitudinal experiences in a variety of clinics such as a Federally Qualified Community Health Center for those experiencing homelessness. The program seeks to instill in residents the responsibility that each family physician has to be involved with and render care in partnership with marginalized communities.
