The University of Cincinnati residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology is a dynamic program, which provides its graduates with broad and current competence in our specialty and the ability to pursue careers in either academic medicine or private practice.
Our residency offers an excellent educational experience with strengths in its range and depth of academic conferences, clinical and surgical training and graduated levels of resident responsibility.
Our faculty is made up of both a large cadre of physicians and PhDs with national reputations in their fields of scientific interest and clinician-teachers.
The core of our residency is housed in the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Founded in 1819, the College of Medicine was one of the first in the country to have a closely affiliated teaching hospital and a full-time faculty. The college has a long tradition of educating physicians and has trained many of our country's most capable physicians for nearly 190 years.
Over 56 residency and fellowship programs at UC train some 500 postgraduate specialists each year. The College of Medicine itself is housed in the medical campus’s Medical Sciences Building (MSB), opened in 1974 as one of the largest single structures for medical education in the United States.
Besides the college, the MSB and adjacent CARE/Crawley Building (opened in 2008) contain the myriad medical departments, libraries and research laboratories that support the work of the College of Medicine.
Our residency program in OB–GYN combines the predominantly non-private, high-risk patient population at University of Cincinnati Medical Center with the large-volume, relatively low-risk, private practice patients at The Christ Hospital., an affiliated facility located only a few minutes away, to achieve an ideal patient mix.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Cincinnati has a section of Family Planning and is designated as an official Kenneth J. Ryan Residency Training Program in Abortion and Family Planning. This prestigious program is part of a national network of residency programs that enhance comprehensive resident training in abortion, surgical management of abnormal/medically complicated pregnancies, complex contraception, LARC, advocacy and grieving/bereavement counseling. Our program has been designed to be in full compliance with ACGME requirements and maintains a partial participation option for our residents.
The Cincinnati Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center., Cincinnati Health Department, Planned Parenthood, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center provide unique clinical experiences that further enhance resident training.
