"There are no experts, no hierarchies, no wrong answers; anyone may speak about his or her experiences or simply listen." - Medicine’s Search for Meaning, NYT Opinionator
Finding Meaning in Medicine is an initiative initially created at the Institute for the Study of Health and Illness with the goal of creating supportive communities for physicians to process the unique challenges of practicing medicine and deepen a sense of professional satisfaction through reflection and sharing experiences.
As a resident, you will have the opportunity to participate in our own monthly Finding Meaning in Medicine meetings with physicians at all levels of training. Meetings are informal, off campus (usually at a member’s home), and are each centered around a theme; previous themes have included gratitude, loss, mystery, and love.
Participants often find that these discussions with their colleagues allow them to reflect on their experience, value, and humanity and can help them uncover the meaning and wonder they find in their work, even during challenging times.
