Our Addiction Medicine elective exposes you to the comprehensive care of patients with substance abuse disorders including inpatient consults, the Addiction Science Clinic, and therapy programs.
The Advanced Cardiology elective will give you further experience in patient care in the CVICU and allow hands-on experience in the cardiac catheterization lab including procedures and film interpretation.
If you are interested in oncology, the Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) elective will allow you to work directly with the inpatient BMT service as well as the outpatient BMT clinic in diagnosing, managing, and treating patients with hematologic malignancies.
Our Transplant Infectious Diseases elective allows upper-level residents interested in infectious diseases to learn about the complexities and intricacies in caring for patients with infection post-transplantation.
If you are interested in critical care, you can do the Anesthesia elective to develop intubation and procedural skills in the OR, or learn point-of-care ultrasound techniques in the Ultrasound elective.
Furthermore, the Pulmonary-Advanced Critical Care elective, at both UC and the VA, gives you the additional opportunity to round with the ICU teams outside your typical ICU rotations. During this elective, you will assist with procedures in the units, teach at morning report, and attend weekly critical care conferences.
Dedicated pathway electives include the Initiative on Poverty, Justice, and Health elective and the Medical Education elective as part of the Medical Education Pathway.
If you have an interest not covered in our extensive elective options you can pursue a Designer Elective by creating your own clinical rotation under the supervision of a faculty mentor and Chief Medical Residents. Previous residents have designed electives around interventional radiology, dermatology, cardiac imaging, psychiatry, general radiology, and many others.
