Research Pathway

The research pathway complements core research efforts within the residency (click here to read more about research in residency) and the department

You should join this pathway if: 

  • You are interested in research but need a place to start
  • You are involved in research and want to further develop your skills
  • You want to present and publish your research

Participants in the Research Pathway are eligible for 4 total months of dedicated research time. 

  • During your time on the Research Pathway, you will: 
  • Attend at least 6 Research Noon Report sessions each year
  • Lead 1 Research Noon Report session either journal club or a research topic
  • Complete the self-paced Research 101 course on Canvas (8 required modules):
    • Identifying a research mentor and a research project 
    • Introduction to human subjects research and protections 
    • Submitting an IRB protocol at UC 
    • Data collection instructions for REDCap 
    • Conducting a literature search 
    • Effective writing for publication 
    • Transparency, rigor, and reproducibility in research 
    • Study design and data analysis basics 
    • Evaluating the literature and presenting a journal club 
    • Race and racism in research and medicine 
  • Participate in scholarly activity
  • Present a research poster at a conference (local, state, or national level)
  • Publication of research in an academic journal
