At the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center, our mission is clear: to reduce the suffering and mortality associated with cancer in our community and beyond. We are committed to making Cincinnati the epicenter of cancer innovation worldwide. While this is an ambitious declaration, it provides a clear and inspirational vision when measured by outcomes.
Being the most innovative city means that we must understand how cancer develops and find ways to reduce occurrences to the lowest rate possible. For those who develop cancer, we are committed to advancing our knowledge and treatment methods to ensure they can lead long, healthy lives. This commitment requires a three-pronged approach across three key levels:
At the community level, the Office of Community Outreach & Engagement strives to establish and strengthen community partnerships throughout the region by connecting members of the community as well as community organizations directly to researchers and clinicians at the Cancer Center. Through these collaborations, we hope to better address the cancer-related challenges in our region, and over time, reduce the overall burden of cancer.
We will accomplish our goals, in part, by facilitating the sharing of meaningful insights and data between the community and Cancer Center members, disseminating evidence-based research findings back to the community and supporting opportunities for education and advocacy within both the Cancer Center and the community. Given the importance of early detection in curing cancer, our educational efforts will focus on prevention, screening, early detection and survivorship.
At the Cancer Center, we aim to raise awareness and share educational resources by highlighting each cancer awareness month. In each edition of our quarterly community newsletter, you'll find an overview of the current status of the featured cancer type, along with its history and future outlook. This section will also provide insights into the cancer's impact on our community, including relevant data, recent scientific discoveries, and more.
