The Clinical Trials Office (CTO) at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center conducts comprehensive research studies in all aspects of cancer care – cancer prevention, screening, treatment, survivorship, and supportive care. The research professionals in the CTO serve as key resources for patients, investigators, and sponsors on cutting-edge clinical trials that advance science.
Before a drug or treatment can be given to cancer patients, it goes through years of testing in cells, tissue cultures, and pre-clinical animal models. The next step is clinical research trials, which are studies involving patients. This complex, lengthy scientific research process has been the main source of progress in treating cancer over the past few decades.
Our cancer experts also conduct investigator-initiated trials (IITs), which highlight the breakthrough science happening right here at UC. This could not happen without the dedicated clinical research professionals at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office.
Clinical Trials Office staff held a Valentine's Day box competition as a team-building exercise.
Clinical Trials Office Structure
Medical director Emily Curran, MD, and administrative director Michelle Marcum oversee the CTO. The team comprises clinical research managers, educators, and dozens of coordinators focused on clinical and regulatory compliance. Coordinators are organized into teams to foster in-depth expertise and to provide coverage across trials and locations.
There are also cross-functional teams for the CTO/Biospecimen lab, regulatory compliance, data/quality assurance, and finance.
