How to Apply

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Our program is four years in length. We are currently approved for 14 residents per year.

The Department of Emergency Medicine participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and our resident positions are available only through the NRMP. Any questions you may have should be directed to the NRMP (202-828-0676). Our NRMP program number is 1548110CO.

We accept applications through ERAS.

Apply Now!

In addition to the standard ERAS application, applications should also include the MSPE, three letters of recommendation, USMLE scores, and a personal statement.  For letters of recommendation, we require at least one Departmental Standard Letter of Evaluation (SLOE), although a second SLOE from an “away rotation” is desirable.  The application deadline is November 1.  Interview invitations will be sent out on a rolling basis beginning October 15 at 6:00pm.  All application decisions, including waitlist invitations, are typically finalized by December 15.

We will be participating in the Preference Signaling Program and all interviews will be virtual.  We will also be offering Second Look dates in January and February to those invited for an interview.  We understand that many applicants will not have the ability to attend a Second Look and thus the decision to attend or not will have no impact on ranking.  Second Looks are only offered to allow applicants the opportunity to gain more familiarity with our residents and the city of Cincinnati and there will be no formal interactions with faculty.

All correspondence regarding the status of your application is conducted by e-mail; therefore, applicants should have a reliable e-mail address that is checked regularly.

International Medical Graduates: In addition to the above materials, we also require:

  • Graduation from medical school within the past two years
  • Must have passed the CSA as well as Steps 1 and 2 of the USMLE
  • Current ECFMG certification and eligible for a J-1 visa
  • Our institution does not offer H-1B visas
