Mission Statement: The Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery provides education in oral and maxillofacial surgery while balancing the needs of the community around us. The program was designed to create a mature and independent practitioner in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Clinical experience will provide adequate exposure to build competence in the core scope and practice of oral and maxillofacial surgery, i.e., ambulatory anesthesia, dentoalveolar, maxillofacial trauma, diagnosis and management of pathology, and surgical rehabilitation of oral-facial deformities.
The Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery offers three categorical four-year positions in our program with an additional non-categorical intern position. The principal goal of the program is the training of our residents to practice the broad scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, and to become fully qualified and prepared to successfully pass the American Board of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery examination and obtain Diplomate status.
An optional educational track is available to obtain an MD degree. To qualify, the candidate must pass Part I of the National Medical Licensing Exam to enter the third year of medical school at the University of Cincinnati after first completing the four-year Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency program. Candidates must then complete the third and fourth year of medical school, plus one year of internship.
Resident OMSITE (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery In-service Testing Examination) scores are consistently very competitive to the national average.
