Residents from the UC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology rotate on the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) service every three to four weeks. In addition, residents and fellows from the following departments or divisions rotate through the REI program:
Because of our local, regional and national reputation, the REI division also attracts requests from residents across the country who want to spend a four-week block with us.
While on the REI divisional rotation, medical students and residents are able to participate in the management and treatment of patients with problems associated with infertility and other reproductive disorders.
The division also participates in the education of the third-year residents by giving the interactive trainings sessions on REI-related topics during each departmental rotation. Fourth-year medical students from the University of Cincinnati and other schools rotate on the REI service for up to four weeks.
Since 1988, the division has had a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. The fellowship has been accredited on a three- to five-year renewal since its inception and is one of 42 REI training around the country. Dr. Michael Thomas has been the program director of the fellowship since 2001.
Approximately 100 applicants apply each year for the one fellowship position available at our institution. We interview 12 to 20 applicants during the interview season that runs from July to October.
The REI program participates in the NRMP Match program and usually matches its first, second or third choices.
