The curriculum for PSTP residents and fellows allows for the best possible clinical and research experience.Internal Medicine Residency Training
The two years in the Internal Medicine component are focused on clinical training which includes twenty months of direct patient responsibility. In intern year, PSTP residents have seven months of inpatient medicine, two months of electives, one month of intensive care, one month of inpatient neurology and one month of vacation.
During the second year the resident is expected to meet with potential mentors and formalize an area of research. In the second year, PSTP residents have five-six months of inpatient medicine, two-three months of intensive care, two-three months of elective, one month of emergency medicine and one month of vacation. Research may replace up to two months of elective time. The PSTP leadership will meet with the fellowship program director and the mentor in order to formalize the research and clinical training plan for the resident’s subsequent years of training in what we call the "big flexible meeting".
Subspecialty Training
The subspecialty clinical training will be for one to two years depending on the subspecialty. Successful completion of the residency program guarantees admission to the selected subspecialty fellowship training program. This includes a subspecialty clinic for one half day per week.
Research Training
At least three years of research training at 80 percent commitment is required.
