Application Process

The Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program abides by the selection and recruitment policies set forth by the College of Medicine Office of Graduate Medical Education.

We participate in the NRMP and accept applications only through the ERAS system. ERAS applications must be completed and available for review by our program before October 1. Selected candidates will be invited to attend one of several day-long programs. The candidates will be provided the opportunity to meet faculty, staff and current fellows and to personally view the facilities.

Given restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, interviews for those applying to enter fellowship in 2022 will be virtual.

We offer two trainee positions each year. As stated above, these PGY-4 positions will be filled through the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) using the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). This program does not accept paper applications. All relevant documentation must be submitted through ERAS.

In order to be eligible for acceptance into the program, the following criteria must be met:

  • MD or DO degree, or equivalent
  • US citizenship, permanent resident, or J1 Visa status (H1B Visa status only accepted under extraordinary circumstances)
  • Completed three years of U.S. postgraduate training in an ACGME accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program by the time of entry into the fellowship program
  • Successful passage of USMLE Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3 or COMPLEX exams

Applicants should complete their ERAS application by July 21, 2021.  ERAS documents may include:

  • Complete CV
  • Personal statement
  • Copy of USMLE Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3 certificates
  • Three letters of recommendation (one from your Internal Medicine residency program director)
  • Recent photograph
  • Copy of medical diploma
  • Copy of medical school transcript
