Director's Welcome

Welcome to the Infectious Disease Division at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The division is committed to fulfilling the missions of the College of Medicine by providing excellence in clinical care, education and research.

The physicians of the Infectious Disease Division provide care to the most complex clinical cases, performing inpatient and outpatient infectious diseases consultative services at University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Cincinnati VA Medical Center, Drake Hospital and West Chester Hospital. In addition, the Infectious Disease Center provides specialty care to many of the HIV-infected individuals in the Tri-state region.

The clinicians have expertise in all aspects of infectious diseases with particular interest in infections in immunocompromised individuals.

The research program of the division includes both a robust clinical research program and a highly esteemed basic science research program. These programs receive substantial NIH, VA and pharmaceutical industry funding.

The clinical research program is focused on management of HIV infection, HIV complications and other viral infections, while the basic science program is centered around the investigation of fungal organisms common in the Ohio Valley.

Members of the division play an active part in all aspects of education within the College of Medicine. In addition to their role in graduate medical education in the infectious diseases fellowship and internal medicine residency programs, faculty are involved in many aspects of medical student and graduate student education.

Through their leadership in the infection control and antibiotic stewardship programs, the faculty play and important role in educating the faculty and staff of the hospitals we serve.

The division is expanding in its clinical, research and educational efforts while maintaining its commitment to excellence in all aspects of divisional activities. The division is honored to participate in efforts to grow and maintain the reputation of the College of Medicine as a leader in healthcare research and education.
