Occupational public health is a dedicated branch of medicine that focuses on the prevention of work-related illness and injury. Students in this concentration also complete the Occupational Medicine Residency Training Program while obtaining their MPH degree. Applicants must have completed a clinical year (PGY-1) before they start the UC Occupational Medicine residency program, and they should have completed or currently be completing their PGY-1 clinical year before applying to our program.
The UC MPH-Occupational Public Health concentration fulfills important requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) as well as the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) as residents prepare for their board certification in Preventive Medicine with a specialty in Occupational Medicine. This program prepares students to assume leadership positions in settings that include: government agencies, universities, corporate medical departments, hospital-based occupational medicine departments, insurance companies, and ambulatory occupational medicine practices.
Upon completion of the MPH degree in Occupational Public Health, students will be able to:
