Celebrating Our Students

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine celebrates the many milestones in a medical student’s educational training while in school. Some of the ceremonies/events include:

Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society

Election to Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) is an honor signifying a lasting commitment to professionalism, leadership, scholarship, research, and community service. A lifelong honor, membership in the society confers recognition for a physician’s dedication to the profession and art of healing. Membership in AOA may be attained as a medical student and each school may elect up to 20% of the graduating class.

Gold Humanism Recognition and Induction Ceremony

Third-year medical students are nominated and winners are inducted into Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) at the annual Recognition and Induction Ceremony and dinner. GHHS members will design and implement a service project during the fourth year. The faculty recipient of the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine award and the resident winners of the Humanism and Excellence in Teaching award are also inducted into GHHS.

Honors Day Ceremony

The College of Medicine Honors Day is an annual ceremony held in May when members of the graduating class are hooded, signifying the completion of their studies for the Doctor of Medicine degree.

Match Day

In March, the College of Medicine celebrates with its senior medical students and students across the country as they learn where they will go to receive specialty training in their chosen field.

White Coat Ceremony

The College of Medicine welcomes new students at the start of each academic year. This ceremony includes recitation of a student oath and the presentation of a white coat to each student as a symbol of entry into the medical profession.
