John Hutton

John Hutton, MD, was the 42nd dean in the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine’s history, serving from 1987 until 2002. While dean, Dr. Hutton founded the divisions of Developmental Biology and Biomedical Informatics, and recruited chairs for 20 of the college’s 22 departments. Also under Dr. Hutton’s leadership, the college created the Pathways Program, helping local underprivileged minority middle school, high school and college students foster interests in science and health care. He developed for the college a dual admissions program for promising high school students, an MD/MBA program and a National Institutes of Health-funded MD/PhD Physician Scientist Training Program.

UC/CCHMC Match

As an endowed fund, The John and Mary Ellyn Hutton Endowed Scholars Fund for the Medical Scientist Training Program provides a vital source of permanent funding for the Medical Scientist Training Program at the UC College of Medicine and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Center. Recognizing the vital importance of this program to both institutions and to the medical community of greater Cincinnati and the rest of the country, leadership at UC and CCHMC came together to provide additional incentive to donors to support this marquee program.

The goal of this campaign is to increase the level of this endowed fund to $2 million which would provide substantial annual support for the program. To inspire donors to invest in the program, matching funds have been made available by both UC and CCHMC. Each institution will match gifts to the fund at 50% up to a total of $1 million raised, providing a total of $1 million in matching funds to achieve the goal of $2 million in the endowment.
