In addition, the endocrinology staff supervises a hospital-wide program in diabetes management for inpatients.
The UC Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism has outpatient clinics on UC's medical campus in Clifton and in West Chester. UC endocrinologists treat the full range of hormonal conditions including diabetes, disorders of thyroid, adrenal, and pituitary function, osteoporosis and bone disease, abnormalities of sex hormones, and lipid disorders.
There is particular expertise in bone disease, with on-site bone densitometry, nodular thyroid disease and thyroid cancer, and comprehensive diabetes care. The division has a multidisciplinary approach to diabetes that includes particular attention to patient and family education.
The division has a highly successful research program with a focus on the causes and treatments of obesity and diabetes. Scientists from UC's endocrinology division are internationally known and attract research support from the National Institutes of Health, Veterans Administration and industry.
Beyond our basic science work, the division is very active in clinical trials with a goal of understanding and making available the newest effective therapies for diabetes care. Members of the division lead the Cincinnati Diabetes and Obesity Center, a comprehensive program at UC linking investigators and clinicians across UC, UC Health and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center to develop new approaches for patient care and provide education and other support to the community.
Faculty members in the division are active in teaching and training students, residents and scientists throughout the UC College of Medicine. Our goal is to enhance endocrine care by providing the best instruction in endocrinology to the future generations of health care providers including physicians, nurses and related staff.
More than 50 percent of the endocrinologists practicing in the Cincinnati area trained at UC, and we are dedicated to continuing to train excellent endocrinologists who can meet the needs of our community.
Our goal is to remain a national leader recognized for integrating clinical excellence, innovative research and outstanding education, and to continue to innovate so that we can provide new and exceptional patient care to patients with diabetes and other endocrine disorders.
Sincerely,
Mercedes Falciglia, MDDivision Director
