Fellowship training occurs over the course of a year. Training is conducted in compliance with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) program requirements for general fellowship education in the subspecialties of internal medicine and the specific requirements for fellowship education in Interventional Cardiology.
Fellows rotate within University of Cincinnati Medical Center and Cincinnati Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center catherization laboratories over a 12-month period. All fellows will achieve the procedure requirements as outlined by the American Board of Internal Medicine for Interventional Cardiologist.
Training takes place at University Hospital and at the adjacent Cincinnati Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center.
University of Cincinnati Medical Center has 695 beds, a wide variety of clinics, and a Level I Trauma Center that directs two Air Care helicopters. The hospital has three cardiac catheterization laboratories, a separate electrophysiology (EP) laboratory, an echocardiography laboratory, a stress testing and nuclear cardiology perfusion imaging laboratory and a heart failure/yransplant (HF/TXP) clinic.
The general cardiology continuity clinic for fellows is conducted in the adjacent Hoxworth Center.
VA Medical Center is a 116-bed facility with a combined cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology laboratory, an echocardiography laboratory and a stress testing laboratory. Nuclear cardiac perfusion imaging is provided by the hospital’s nuclear medicine department.
The cardiology fellow continuity clinic takes place on the fourth floor of the hospital.
