Many OB-GYN faculty serve as mentors to the first- and second-year students and, in some instances, may open their practice to the student for shadowing opportunities.
Clinical and basic science research projects are ongoing within the department. Interested students may inquire about opportunities through the department or through their faculty mentor.
The enhanced educational experience in Women’s Health provides medical students an opportunity to expand their knowledge in areas of sex- and gender-specific health care. Students apply during the fall of their first year in medical school and are selected by a panel of faculty members. Once accepted, opportunities for either longitudinal or multi-disciplinary clinical experiences are available. Students participate in a summer research project (clinical or basic science) relating to women’s health that culminates in either a poster or podium presentation. Students attend monthly department conferences on women’s health issues. On occasion, additional meetings are held to reinforce learning objectives introduced in pre-clinical coursework. This educational track is ideal for students interested in careers in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine-Women’s Health, or OB/GYN.
