Director's Welcome

Welcome to the University of Cincinnati Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine website.  We are pleased to provide a summary of the services we provide and our areas of expertise.

Our division is comprised of eight full-time Maternal-Fetal Medicine faculty members, two advanced practice nurses with expertise in high-risk obstetrics and diabetes in pregnancy, and three Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellows.  We specialize in the care of women with the most complex medical and fetal complications of pregnancy.  The University of Cincinnati Medical Center has the only adult Level I trauma center in the region, and houses a 50 bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  We have access to a variety of adult and neonatal subspecialty services, allowing us to provide the most contemporary multidisciplinary care to women with serious complications of pregnancy.

We are a high-volume referral site for pregnancies with complex fetal anomalies and rare fetal conditions.  In collaboration with The Cincinnati Fetal Center at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, the UC Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists provide team-based multidisciplinary outpatient consultative services, inpatient care, as well as a variety of invasive prenatal diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including minimally invasive and open fetal surgical procedures.

We provide consultative perinatal services at several community hospitals in the Cincinnati area and care for high-risk pregnancies at our primary site at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and College of Medicine’s main campus.  We also provide consultative care for women with diabetes in pregnancy at four locations in the Cincinnati area through DAPP, our Diabetes and Pregnancy Program.

Our division is dedicated to the educational mission of the University.  We are actively involved in teaching evidence-based medicine to medical students, residents, and fellows on a daily basis.  Our faculty are actively engaged in clinical and translational research.  We present research frequently at regional and national meetings, and are productive in the publication of peer-reviewed research.  We also have numerous funded research grants for our current studies and employ four full-time research coordinators in the division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

We feel privileged to provide care to women with complicated pregnancies and strive to ensure those referred to us receive the highest quality state-of-the art perinatal care.

Sincerely,

Robert Rossi, MD
Interim Director, Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine
