About the Program

Adult Clinical Neuroimmunology Fellowship

The fellowship is a one-year clinical program based primarily at The Waddell Center for Multiple Sclerosis at the University of Cincinnati. Our multidisciplinary Center is a member of the Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Centers (CMSC) and a Partner in Care with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The clinical team includes neuroimmunology faculty, nurse practitioners, nurse coordinators, a clinical pharmacist, dietitian, licensed social workers, and multiple research coordinators. Fellows gain experience in a true multidisciplinary approach to MS care by working closely with this experienced team.

Clinical Training

Fellows run their own continuity clinic, independently obtaining detailed histories and performing comprehensive neurological examinations. They also see new and return patients with multiple neuroimmunology attendings. Clinical exposure includes patients with confirmed or suspected central demyelinating and autoimmune disorders such as:

  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
  • Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD)
  • MOG antibody associated disease (MOGAD)
  • Transverse myelitis
  • Optic neuritis
  • Neurosarcoidosis
  • Autoimmune encephalitis
  • CNS vasculitis

Fellows also participate in patient care at affiliated hospitals, including University of Cincinnati Medical Center and West Chester Hospital. Elective opportunities are available with subspecialty services such as CAR T-cell therapy, neuro-urology, neuro-ophthalmology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, gait and spasticity clinic, rheumatology, and the sarcoidosis clinic.

Educational Activities

Fellows participate in a full schedule of didactics, lectures, case conferences, and journal clubs, as well as support groups and patient education events sponsored by the Center.

Research

Fellows are expected to engage in clinical research and complete at least one project or case report during the fellowship year.
