Program Overview

The Department of Internal Medicine (DOIM) at the University of Cincinnati (UC) is devoted to nurturing the professional development of new physicians. To ensure ALL trainees have every opportunity to pursue their academic interests, the DOIM has established a career pathway to develop remarkable clinicians dedicated to leadership and scholarship in medical education.

The Medical Education Fellowship, based in the Division of General Internal Medicine, is a two-year advanced training fellowship during which fellows learn cutting-edge skills in teaching, adult learning methodology, educational program leadership and educational scholarship. Fellows in this program will have 50% protected time dedicated to their development as educational scholars and leaders, with their remaining time focused on clinical responsibilities. During the fellowship all fellows will receive funding and support to pursue a Master of Education for Health Professional (M.Ed) at UC's College of Education. Throughout the program trainees participate in clinical and education specific professional development opportunities, including personalized career mentoring with educational scholars and leaders throughout UC’s academic health center.

Professional Development

UC’s Medical Education Scholars have many opportunities for professional development including formal coursework, seminars, travel stipends for meetings, and close mentorship for their academic development.
