Medical Community Advocates Pathway
We believe that outstanding physicians go beyond clinical care to champion the needs of their patients and communities. The MedCAres pathway provides residents with the skills, experience, and support to make a lasting impact—both within our medical center and in the broader community.
The pathway hosts frequent noon conferences and journal clubs for all residents. Residents interested in earning the pathway distinction on graduation have the opportunity to engage in mentored scholarly work, medical student mentorship, and teaching or curriculum development aligned with MedCAres goals.
Advocacy Within Our Medical Center
Effective advocacy starts where we work. Residents in this pathway collaborate with hospital leadership, care teams, and support staff to enhance patient care systems, improve access to essential services, and address challenges that impact our patients’ well-being. Whether it’s streamlining transitions of care, improving health literacy, or developing initiatives that remove barriers to treatment, our residents learn to drive meaningful change from within.
Engagement Beyond the Hospital
The health of our patients is deeply connected to the world beyond our walls. Through MedCAres, residents can partner with local organizations, public health initiatives, and community leaders to better understand and address the medical and social factors that influence health outcomes. Through outreach clinics, educational programs, and scholarly work, residents can strengthen community partnerships, participate in community health initiatives and engage in policy work to address barriers to health.
By blending hands-on experience with structured mentorship, the MedCAres pathway equips residents with the knowledge and leadership skills to be lifelong advocates, empowering their patients towards better health outcomes—wherever their careers take them.
