Laura Conforti Lab

Who we are…

confortilaura-2017Our laboratory is interested in ion channels and the membrane mechanisms that regulate the activation and function of human lymphocytes. Ion channels control calcium homeostasis and downstream associated effector functions. The main interests of the lab span from studying the function and regulation of ion channel in normal lymphocytes to determining ion channel abnormalities in cancer and autoimmunity.

What we do…

We integrate a multidisciplinary approach in collaboration with clinicians and basic research scientists. The techniques used in the laboratory include, but are not limited to, electrophysiology (patch-clamp), flow cytometry, and fluorescence and confocal microscopy. Furthermore, nanotechnology methods are currently applied with the goal of developing novel therapeutic agents.  Our translational approach offers an exciting environment for trainees to learn more about human disease biology and therapeutic advances in the treatment of cancer and autoimmunity.

Dr. Conforti is presently a member/collaborator of several departments at the UC College of Medicine, Engineering and Children’s Hospital.
