Early Detection of Degenerative Disorders & Innovative Solutions Lab (EDDI Lab)

The over-arching goal of our research is to develop early detection methods of identifying pre-clinical signs of neuro-toxic exposures and neuro-degenerative and degenerative disorders.  With early detection, susceptible populations can be identified sooner, individuals can receive therapy earlier, and exposure controls and preventive measures can be implemented to minimize the development of chronic diseases in the community, resulting in lower healthcare costs and decreased disparities in healthcare delivery. The following are specific areas of interest:

  • Early Detection of Osteoporosis (Bone Fragility) and Osteoarthritis
  • Application of Nano-Sensors for Early Detection of Neuro-degenerative and Degenerative Skeletal Disorders and associated Risk for Falls  
  • Application of Wearable/Ingestible Sensors for Real-Time Monitoring of Heat Strain and Toxic Gas Exposures and associated Influence on Functional Abilities  of  First Responders 
  • Early Detection of Susceptibility Due to Physical Risk Factors Causing Traumatic Injury
  • Non-Invasive Detection of Neurotoxicity Effects of Low-Level Exposure to Toxic Chemicals
  • Role of Gene-Environment Interaction as an Early Detection Tool for Susceptibility to Neurotoxic Chemical(s)-Mediated Influence on Functional Abilities
