Stipends & Fellowships

Graduate Assistantships are awarded to almost 2000 full-time graduate students each year at the University of Cincinnati. GAs receive full tuition in addition to a monthly financial stipend to cover their living expenses.The program makes every effort to provide a competitive stipend to full-time doctoral students.

Additional funding opportunities:
UGS (University Graduate Scholarship): The University Graduate Scholarship (UGS) is a University-funded scholarship that covers all or a portion of tuition and instructional fees for graduate students.

Yates Fellowships and Scholarships for Minority Students: With these awards, you receive a full-tuition scholarship plus a waiver of general fees. You are not required to supply any services to the University (such as teaching or research) in return for your award. The only requirements are that you remain in good academic standing and take a full-time course load. The Yates Fellowships and Scholarships cover one academic year and will continue in all following years as long as you maintain academic progress toward your degree. If you are awarded a Yates Fellowship, you will receive a monthly stipend to pay for living expenses in addition to your scholarship.

University Distinguished Graduate Fellowships:
The University Distinguished Graduate Fellowship (UDGF) is a three year award that offers highly competitive twelve month stipends. Additionally, if you hold a UDGF you are guaranteed:

  • Supervised teaching experience
  • A minimum of six academic quarters as a Research Assistant
  • Mentoring by an outstanding faculty scholar and
  • Departmental funding for up to two additional years of study if degree requirements are not fulfilled after three years.

Albert J. Ryan Foundation Fellowships (awarded jointly to students at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Dartmouth College and Harvard University)

NRSA: INDIVIDUAL PREDOCTORAL NATIONAL RESEARCH SERVICE AWARDS FOR M.D./PH.D. FELLOWSHIPS administered by NIH

Society of Toxicology Graduate Student Fellowships: The Graduate Student Fellowship Awards are provided by generous sponsors including Covance and Novartis Corporation and are open to student members of the SOT engaged in full-time graduate study towards a Ph.D. degree in toxicology. The major professor must be a SOT member. The Education Committee’s evaluation is based primarily on originality of the dissertation research productivity, relevance to toxicology, scholastic achievement and letters of recommendation. Finalists are interviewed at the Annual Meeting and receive travel support.
