Catherine Lusky is an MPH student in the Health Education and Health Promotion concentration. She volunteered for the summer Environmental Health Camps at the Museum Center.

"I was able to volunteer at the Cincinnati Museum Center where I taught children about environmental health topics during a Summer camp. This was a great opportunity to work with a different population as well as educate about a topic different than what I normally gravitate towards. This opportunity really helped me to broaden my horizons and also helped me to realize that my career interest areas might be different than what I originally thought."

sarah testimonial

My name is Sarah Burcham, and I am a PhD student in Epidemiology at the University of Cincinnati. I volunteered at the Cincinnati Museum Center's 2022 Environmental Health Camp and led the activity on Environmental Food Contamination.

MPH student, Natasha Rodriguez, and I developed an interactive presentation for the students as we taught them to be "disease detectives". Our primary goal was for the students to learn about environmental microbiological hazards and to have fun while doing it. We designed poster boards and worksheets for the students to work through as part of the activity. We even arranged for our students to get to a fun prize for their participation and to remember their experience (giant E. coli microbe keychains!)

It was great experience for me to get creative, to work alongside fellow students and faculty in the department, and to engage with the Cincinnati community. I look forward to doing it again!

Francisco De La Garza Iga - MPH Graduate (2022)

"The Community Engagement Core (CEC) through the Health Fair that took place in 2021 allowed me to not only share the knowledge I have gained while completing my Masters's in Public Health with a focus on Environmental Health like how to improve water quality for drinking/consumption and how to protect families from environmental toxicants but also empowered me to share the information in Spanish with the LatinX Community in Cincinnati. I will always be grateful for the opportunity the CEC gave me!"

Kuljeet Kaur

Hi, My name is Kuljeet Kaur. I am an MPH graduate.

Working with CEC was a life-changing experience during my time in college that really brought out the best in my research abilities. Dr. Burbage patiently offered guidance and mentoring. She made the research and its approach remarkably simple for me, that now I appreciate research like never before.
