UC Collaborative

The Freeman Center partnered with Advancement and Transition Services (ATS) at the University of Cincinnati in the fall of 2021 to explore how the various colleges and disciplines at the University of Cincinnati come together to educate and train future leaders in IDD fields. Areas of interest include partnering with Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Nutrition, and Social Work.

The University of Cincinnati Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCCEDD)

Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) Program

In 2021, the Freeman Center partnered with Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) to complete a Seminar in Evidence-Based Medicine (SEBM) project related to Center development.  The first project was focused on the creation of a community navigator role for the Center. In addition to SEBM, the Freeman Center is currently exploring clinical opportunities for LEND trainees.

Hamilton County Developmental Disability Services (DDS)

In January 2020, the Freeman Center (formerly called Transition Care Clinic) partnered with Hamilton County DDS to provide behavior supports to patients. The behavior supports team meets monthly with the medical team to support mutual patients and facilitate early intervention for patients at risk of incarceration or admission to a developmental center. This collaboration also connects individuals with IDD transitioning out of developmental centers back into the community to providers at the Freeman Center.

Hamilton County DDS also has generously provided a behavior supports specialist for the Freeman Center. The behavior supports specialist trains staff and works to ensure the clinic environment is welcoming and sensory friendly. She also works directly with patients and families to make visits less anxiety provoking and more comfortable. She assists with blood draws, vaccines, and other medical experiences that may be traumatic or frightening for patients. She can also meet with patients and families to troubleshoot difficult situations that may occur outside of medical visits.

The Freeman Center/Hamilton County DDS partnership also resulted in a new community-based service-learning project available to first year medical students at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Ken Anderson Alliance (KAA)

The Freeman Center and KAA are working to explore healthcare delivery models to meet the needs of future KAA community members.
